Kia ora, friends! It’s been a week since I last wrote/created something on here and I am really keen to finish up my longest ever 100-day challenge 😅 there are so many things I want to write about – how we approach mental distress and challenging behaviours in our society (topic of my thesis which so far lives on my computer and has been read by, I think, three people – my supervisor, a grade-checker, and Jacob), why hedgehogs are not evil and this is just a projection of colonial guilt 🦔, and of course birds, tea, emotional stuff as per usual. All sorts!
I know it wants to come out because I keep thinking about them in the shower. But alas! We have been managing seven tradespeople doing work in the house and in all of our spare time we’ve been drilling and painting and buying rugs, so I’ve just been swept up in that and not finding much time for anything else. Today, I was listening to Witch – absolutely essential listening for all women, go now, listen! – and weeding the garden and it felt so nice just tending to land. Getting to know it.
But anyway, I’m going to post my photos and finish up this challenge so I can move on, but I may not be adding so many words until then. Or so I say. It’s hard not to.
One more thing – I’ve just been getting very feministy again recently, harking back to my gender studies days when I discovered the patriarchy and was annoyed about it. I’ve been thinking about female friendships, how important and empowering they are. There’s groups of women who go for morning beach swims on the Wellington coast and it’s badass (the water is not warm, this is not Australia). I guess women are the queens of collaboration and community – important salves for this crazy world. Anyway, highly recommend Secret Voices, a year of women’s diaries by Sarah Gristwood on the topic of women!
Bye, speak soon! ❤️
